Four days of Blues & Brews with the Rocky Mountains in the Background

Added: Aug 07, 2018
Category: Telluride Festivals

The air has turned slightly crisp and thousands of people are anticipating one of Telluride's premier fall events—the world-famous Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, September 13-6, 2018.

Gearing up for its 25th year, the Festival is pulling out all of the stops with this four-day blowout with over 50 microbreweries and some of the most renowned blues singer-songwriters and musicians around the globe. Headliners this year include Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite on Friday night, Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters on Saturday night and Gov't Mule on Sunday night. All throughout the long weekend, an eclectic mix of live blues, funk, indie, rock, jam-band, gospel and soul performances take place on multiple stages in an indescribably beautiful mountain range setting.

There are so many highlights for participants, it would be hard to name them all, but definitely hit the opening night's free Sunset Blues Concert, where soulful melodies cut through the high-altitude Rocky Mountain air followed by the Opening Night party.

Friday's events kick off at 11 a.m. and the Festival grounds are cranking with acts all day and night. Be sure to catch the "high-energy explosions of Zydeco, blues, funk and soul" of Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers along with the highly danceable Monophonics. Cozy up to Samantha Fish with her "smoking hot riffs and powerful voice" and prepare to be wowed by the legendary Booker T. Stax Revue as well as the youngest "oldest blues cat," Christone "Kingfish" Ingram. See the entire lineup here.

Getting thirsty for quality craft brews? Saturday has you covered with a Grand Tasting featuring 56 top-notch breweries. With Sierra Nevada as the Festival's leading sponsor, the Grand Tasting spans three hours from 12 to 3 p.m. as you walk around the grounds enjoying samples of more than 170 styles of beer. From easy-drinking lagers, to fruity sours and hazy IPAs, your special souvenir tasting glass is your drinkable passport to some of the nation's most memorable microbrews.

Saturday's events focus more on the kids with talent shows, inflatable games, a climbing wall and a parade interspersed with even more far-ranging musical acts on various stages. The music doesn't stop with the last act, however, but instead continues at 10 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night at special "Juke Joints" throughout the town of Telluride.

As one past Telluride Blues & Festival goer had to say, "The beauty and sense of community make this feel like four days of blues church. It's not where the blues was born, but what a house of worship!"
