Parking in Telluride

Added: Nov 12, 2020
Category: Winter in Telluride

It’s only natural that you’d want to explore Telluride fully once you’ve made the effort to get here, and the convenience of a vehicle is something most people are used to. That said, because of its small size and the design of the community, you can easily get around without one.

If you’re bringing your wheels to town, you’ll need to know where you’re allowed to park, so we’ve put together this convenient list of options to help you plan.
Private Parking in Telluride
If you’re staying at a private residence in the SilverStar collection, you’re allotted one free private parking space. The Peaks Penthouse collection is the exception since the Penthouses are located in a resort setting; Penthouse properties only permit valet parking (for a fee).

Many Mountain Village townhomes, villas, and private homes have secondary private spaces in addition to the first. Because the townhomes are larger and able to sleep more people, a second vehicle is often expected and can be accommodated, providing you check with management to confirm before arriving.
Free Public Parking in Telluride
During the day (8 am - 6 pm), you can park for free (for up to two hours) on Telluride’s side streets and in most residential areas. This means you can easily park and then walk to local shops and restaurants. If your planned downtown adventure requires more than two hours, make sure you’ve got a parking permit.

You’ll also find free daytime parking (6:30 am - 2 pm) in the Gondola Parking Structure at Mountain Village, adjacent to the free inter-village gondola station. The parking garage is convenient for snow sports lovers since you can ski-in/ski-out from the lower level.

Daytime skiers can park for free from 6 am to 6 pm in the “Carhenge Lot” at the west end of town near the base of Lift 7. This lot is convenient for ski-in/ski-out on the Lift 7 double chair.  Note that overnight parking is strictly forbidden in this lot, and any cars left after hours will get towed.

Free streetside overnight parking is permitted in the daytime 2-hour zones; just be sure to keep track of the time so you’re not still parked without paying once the meters kick in.

Paid Public Parking in Telluride
Daytime Paid Parking
In Telluride’s downtown business district, daytime parking is charged per hour via the meters in the middle of each block. Before parking, check the street signs mid-block to make sure that the street you’re on isn’t closed that day. Every street is closed from 8 am - 5 pm on a different day of the week for snow removal, whether or not it actually snowed.

The Heritage Plaza parking garage also charges by the hour during the day ($35 max per 24 hour period), but you may find the heated garage worth it. It’s also located directly under the main pedestrian plaza area of the Village Core, so the convenience can’t be beaten if you can’t leave your car behind.
Overnight Paid Parking
Overnight public parking is available on a nightly basis in the Mountain Village Gondola Parking structure for a $25 fee. The Heritage Plaza garage also allows overnight parking for $35 per night.
Be a Pedestrian in Telluride
While the convenience of driving is obvious, we highly recommend you avoid it. Both Telluride & Mountain Village are very pedestrian-friendly and easily walkable due to the network of free gondolas and local shuttle options. There’s no need for a vehicle in either Telluride and Mountain Village.

Try taking a shuttle from the airport if you’re flying in, or plan to make do with a single vehicle if you’re staying in Town of Telluride accommodations. You can park your vehicle and leave it until your departure day without even missing your wheels.
