We often think of Telluride, with all of its adult concerts, cultural attractions and steep slopes as an ideal playground for adults, but when you come to visit with the family, there are so many kid-friendly indoor-outdoor things to do - we had to narrow them down to three! The kid's activities in Telluride are endless!
Children's Ski & Snowboard Lessons
Want to ensure the little ones have just as much of a passion for the Telluride ski slopes as you when they grow up? Telluride's Children's Center aims to introduce them to beginner skiing and snowboarding with professional instructors who are adept at teaching kids from 2 1/2 to 14. Each program is geared toward the child's age, skills and attention span with appropriate pacing. A lesson, lift ticket and lunch is included for a fun-filled day, allowing you to get some runs in yourself.
If you've already got experienced little skiers and snowboarders in the family, save some time and hassle with Door 2 Door Ski & Snowboard Rental Delivery. Skip the lines at other rental stores and arrange to have a Door 2 Door representative meet you at your rental home in Telluride Mountain Village or at your Telluride hotel (SilverStar is a proud partner of this service!). Renting skis and snowboards from Door 2 Door will give you peace of mind, knowing your rental equipment is fitted by expert rental technicians. Its staff has years of rental shop and rental delivery experience. In addition, it has one of the largest selections of ski and snowboard rental equipment in the Rockies. This means getting you and your family properly fitted for your ability level and terrain preference will ensure a great time on the mountain.
Kids' Winter EcoAdventures
Maybe your kids aren't into skiing but love the outdoors and/or prefer more creative pursuits. The Telluride Adventure Center provides three options for winter indoor-outdoor fun for kids ages 5-12. Snow Camp allows your child either a half or a full-day outside learning Winter Wilderness Survival, Trekking and Tracking, and Geocaching. The Kids' Happy Hour Camp (3:30-5 p.m.) provides indoor creativity, such as crafts, arts and souvenir-making, while parents can get in a couple of ski runs and après happy hour. And Kids' Night Out (5 to 9 p.m.) provides a yummy dinner with either indoor interactive games or outdoor games.
Creative Adventures For Kids
This is the perfect option for the child who'd rather be inside creating on a wintry day. Ah Haa School for The Arts, a dynamic year-round art school in Telluride, allows kids to work with media they don't usually encounter at home. It offers a number of after-school youth classes, some of which allow drop-ins, or truly customizes the experience with an individualized Create A Class, whether it's for one child or all of the siblings. With a private art lesson with experienced artists as teachers, kids can explore a number of mediums including jewelry, drawing, ceramics, photography, writing and more. "Sign up for a kids art class, dress for a mess and come explore the wonderful world of art!"
