There's a certain thrill to having the mountain air rush by as you pedal along on your own power – or enlist the services of several companies in Telluride to do the driving for you. We're going to tell you three ways to get the most out of seeing the extraordinary beauty of Telluride and its rugged box canyon.

Exciting news for mountain bikers this summer: Telluride Ski Resort has started construction of the new Telluride Bike Park, anticipating opening this June. With approximately 15 trails and 17 miles of terrain, the park was designed and constructed in partnership with Gravity Logic. Based in Whistler, British Columbia, Gravity Logic is the industry leader in the design, development and construction of bike parks in North America.
With lift-serviced access from Mountain Village on the Village Express chairlift (Lift 4), the park will appeal to riders of all ages and skill levels with free-ride, technical and cross-country trails. The park will offer guides, clinics and camps from the Telluride Adventure Center in Mountain Village.
Travelers, you don't even have to bring your own bike. Boot Doctors, which offers bike rentals among other outdoor equipment, will set you up with every kind of bike for every need: from kids' bikes to mountain and fat bikes, from downhill bikes to hit-to-hut touring bikes. By Jeep
Catch the San Juan backcountry while traveling on some of the most scenic mountain passes and off-road trails in a Jeep Wrangler. With a sturdy Jeep, you decide your own custom route, climbing switchbacks and rumbling across rugged roads overlooking gorgeous basins, alpine lakes, mountain views and waterfalls. Just be careful. The commercial outfitters recommend visitors have mountain driving experience because certain trails, like the Black Bear Pass, can be narrow and precipitous.
In nearby Silverton, you can rent two- and four-door Jeep Wranglers from Farabee's for a day of adventure. Make sure you bring good hiking boots, sunscreen and water, so that you can also explore on foot. With a Jeep, you can go places regular cars can't, and you will be able to stop and get out to enjoy views people only dream about. Get more information on renting a Jeep.

Talk about the ultimate thrill ride. With a professional guide, a four-wheel drive (or 4-WD) tour allows you to take in all of the high country without having to worry about the narrow trails of the old mining roads. Besides the high-elevation scenery of the Rockies, you'll get a cultural immersion with each tour harkening back to the Gold Rush days and today's Ghost Towns.
Telluride Outside is a trusted company with tour vehicles that provide heavily padded seats, an open cab, and removable canopy for the ultimate open-air experience. Choose from one of their several tours that go to Imogene Pass, Ophir Pass, Black Bear Pass and a Sunset Tour. What a way to see Telluride in all of its glory! Get more information on 4-WD tours.
