Telluride Winter 2020 — This Winter in Telluride

Added: Oct 28, 2020
Category: Winter in Telluride

We’ve had our first big snow of the season! The winter 2020/2021 season is about to begin and Telluride is getting ready to welcome winter visitors. The ski area is updating its operations to mitigate the risks of COVID. Hotels and other lodgings are operating at reduced capacity for safety, with rigorous cleaning standards in place for guests' protection. Restaurants and bars are using Colorado's Social Distancing Space Calculator to provide as many guests as possible with hospitality.
Yes, things may be a little different this winter. But much of what we all love to enjoy in Telluride will be available including snow, skiing, snowboarding, and much more. We are looking forward to welcoming our guests to the beauty that is Telluride.

Skiing and Snowboarding in Telluride

As the ski lifts carry you up to the top of the San Juans, you'll want to pause for a moment to take in the view of the most beautiful mountain valley on Earth. That's right before you take off down the legendary ski terrain for a skiing or snowboarding experience that combines crowd-free runs, amazing snow conditions, and breathtaking views.

If you're looking for a challenge, Telluride Ski Resort is home to some of the most extreme and expert-level terrain in the world, including hike-in terrain and helicopter skiing. And the mountain offers plenty to beginners and intermediate skiers and boarders as well, with 60% of the terrain dedicated to them. Boarders can enjoy three parks with features aimed at beginners, intermediates, and advanced snowboarders. All in all, Telluride offers more than 2,000 acres at all levels — including 10 km of groomed trails for Nordic/cross-country skiers.

Telluride Winter Events

Visitors flock to Telluride for its well-known events year-round, and even during the pandemic, Telluride is opening its doors to welcome guests to a wide variety of festivals and other events.

In early December, the Telluride Fire Festival brings its magic to the town. Inspired by Burning Man, this celebration of larger-than-life fire art will bring dynamic and interactive art to the valley. Outdoor fire art is free, and the festival continues with the Fire Ball as well as sorts of theatrical performances and workshops.

A week later, Telluride will turn its thoughts to the holidays with a Holiday Prelude in the Mountain Village. This event for the whole family and Weekend activities will include merchant deals, free ice skating and photo ops in the red gondola cabin. Saturday’s activities will include train rides with three different train stops, curling demos, live reindeer in Sunset Plaza, Santa’s village & holiday movies in the conference center, free sledding, a tree lighting ceremony, carolers, a local kids ice show followed by a skate party.

Other Winter Activities

The fun doesn't stop when the festivals are over. Telluride is packed with things to do even when you're not on the slopes. Head outdoors to enjoy Telluride's natural beauty away from the ski slopes by taking a guided snowmobile journey, or enjoy snowshoeing or snowbiking on fat-tire bikes. If you're feeling more adventurous, try out ice climbing, dog sledding, winter fly fishing, or horseback rides through the snow.

Back in town, you'll find plenty of fun, cozy activities as well. Dive into Telluride's artistic side by taking art classes or visiting local galleries, and don't forget to set aside time for dining in this foodie's paradise.
