Skiing
If you're like most visitors to Telluride, you're coming here to experience some incredible skiing. Luckily, skiing is a very accessible activity for children, so they don't have to sit out on the fun! The Telluride Ski School is located in Mountain Village at the Telluride Ski Resort. There, ski lessons are offered to children as young as two and a half years old. Whether your children have skied before and need a refresher or it's their first time, attending the ski school will help them to feel more comfortable, improve their skiing, and hopefully fall in love with the sport. Packages include a lesson and lift with an additional option to rent skis, boots and a helmet. If you're staying in a vacation rental in the Town of Telluride, the gondola (which kids always love!) is only a short ride to Mountain Village where you can drop your young skiers off at their lessons.

For kids too young to receive lessons, there is also a nursery at the ski resort that takes toddlers from ages 1-4. Make sure to reserve your children's spot well ahead of time, since the ski school and daycare are currently operating under limited capacity.
More Family Friendly Activities
Sledding
Skiing is not the only activity for the family to enjoy on a Telluride vacation. Kids will love sledding down the snowy hills. One popular location for sledding is Firecracker Hill, located in Telluride Town Park. The Telluride Nordic Association rents out sleds.
Ice Skating
Another family friendly activity to try out is ice skating. There's no shortage of skating rinks in the area, including both an indoor and an outdoor rink in the Town of Telluride. The indoor Hanley Rink is large (NHL sized!) and a great place to go when conditions turn south outside. The outdoor rink in Telluride Town Park is especially beautiful to behold at night with the twinkling lights that surround it. In Mountain Village, you can skate at the outdoor rink at the Madeline Hotel. Skate rentals are available at all locations.
Exploring History
At the Telluride Historical Museum, kids can learn about the storied history of the mining town turned vacation town. Kids can learn about a range of local history, from how the San Juan mountains were formed to the indigenous Ute people to the town's history as a mining hub.
In addition to visiting the museum, families can enjoy a walking tour of historic Telluride, visiting sites such as the bank where famous outlaw Butch Cassidy committed his first robbery.
